"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask GOD, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." James 1:5

THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN THE STING OF A HARSH WORD YET WE HAVE ALL FALLEN PREY TO EITHER BEING THE CULPRIT OR THE VICTIM OF SUCH ..... GOD SPEAKS OF THE TONGUE NINETY-THREE TIMES IN THE BIBLE .....MOST OF THE MENTION IS IN REFERENCE TO ITS ABILITY TO CAUSE DESTRUCTION.....AS IT IS REVEALED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT , "Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body , but it makes great boasts . Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark . The tongue also is a fire , a world of evil among the parts of the body . It corrupts the whole person , sets the whole course of his life on fire , and is itself set on fire by hell . All kinds of animals , birds , reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man , but no man can tame the tongue . It is a restless evil , full of deadly poison . With the tongue we praise our LORD and FATHER , and with it we curse men , who have been made in GOD'S likeness . Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing . My brothers , this should not be . Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring ? "JAMES 3:5-11 ..... WHEN WE LOOK AT THIS PASSAGE OF SCRIPTURE WE CANNOT IGNORE THE INTENSITY OF WHAT IS BEING SAID HERE ..... IT IS DIFFICULT TO GO THROUGH AN HOUR , LET ALONE AN ENTIRE DAY, WITHOUT FACING THE CHALLENGE OF KEEPING OUR TONGUE IN LINE ..... NO DOUBT AS HUMAN BEINGS WE HAVE MANY GOOD THINGS TO TALK ABOUT ..... WE COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER , TALK KINDLY OF ONE ANOTHER , GIVE GOOD REFERENCES FOR SOME AND SPEAK HIGHLY OF OTHERS ; BUT USING THE SAME BREATH WE BELITTLE , CURSE , GOSSIP AND SLANDER EACH OTHER WITH THE RISING AND THE SETTING OF EACH DAY'S SUN ..... AS THE OLD TESTAMENT STATES , " A deceitful tongue crushes the spirit . " PROVERBS 15:4 ..... AND YET THE OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES REVEAL EVEN MORE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT WHEN IT SAYS , " Their tongue is a deadly arrow . " JEREMIAH 9:8 ..... WE WANT TO BELIEVE THAT WE CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM ON OUR OWN , HOWEVER THERE IS ONE THING THAT WILL ALWAYS GET IN OUR WAY ; THAT IS OUR SIN NATURE ..... BECAUSE THE HEART OF MAN IS DECEITFUL OUR TONGUES CANNOT BE TAMED WITHOUT THE HELP OF GOD HIMSELF ..... IF WE ARE TO PLEASE GOD AND GIVE HIM THE GLORY HE SO RIGHTFULLY DESERVES , WE MUST LEARN TO CONTROL OUR TONGUES ..... HUMBLY GOING BEFORE GOD ON A DAILY BASIS AND ASKING HIM TO ASSIST US IN THIS MATTER IS A NECESSITY ..... ASKING THE HOLY SPIRIT TO FILL OUR HEARTS AND MINDS IS THE BEGINNING OF HAVING A MORE SELF-CONTROLLED TONGUE ..... WHEN WE DO THIS HE WILL FILL US WITH HIS FRUITS AS IT IS SPOKEN OF IN THE NEW TESTAMENT , " But the fruit of the SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control . Against such things there is no law . " GALATIONS 5:22 ..... DAILY DEPENDENCE ON THE LORD JESUS , PRAYER AND STUDY OF HIS WORD WILL ENABLE US TO BECOME THE PERSON WHOM GOD HAS INTENDED US TO BE AND ALLOW US TO BRING A SWEET BLESSING TO THOSE AROUND US ..... THIS IS TURN WILL BEAR WITNESS TO THE FACT THAT OUR GOD TRULY IS AS HE SAYS , " I AM the ALPHA AND THE OMEGA ," says the LORD GOD , " who is , and who was and who is to come , the ALMIGHTY . '' REVELATION 1:8...............................Summer

  1. Thanks for your visit at my blog! Praying that we'll bless everyone we meet today and generously share words of encouragement and hope! God bless!

  2. I could not agree more with that comment Karin
.... prayerfully we will all be in the will of our LORD today and not our own will .

  3. It's so easy to speak before we allow God to filter our words. There have been so many people who have been hurt by words spewed in anger... families are torn apart forever sometimes. This is a great post. PS I love your name! It is Summer, right?

  4. Hi Bobbi ....Thanks for commenting on this ever so sensitive topic ....And yes there are families all over that have been affected by harsh and angry words ....We are so blessed to have GOD'S WORD to be our "standard" and it is always good to seek the wisdom that GOD has to give us in the BIBLE in order to guide us when we face struggles and tribulations .....GOD has an answer for every single question and problem we face ....We don't always like what HE has to say however ....It is difficult these days to speak TRUTH without being chastised however there will be a day of GLORY for those who are faithful til the end ( REVELATION 2:10)
......Thank you for coming on board to follow my blog ....Stay faithful to GOD and do enjoy your day .....Summer

  5. A great big double Amen! and Amen!

The tongue is often a big trouble maker :-(

  6. It appears that most if not all are in agreement that this small organ can and does cause a big commotion ....It takes a lot of prayer as I said and devotion to GOD and a lot of growing in CHRIST to keep it still .

  7. Summer, what a powerful reminder! Thank you!
Even reading this makes me feel sad and somewhat spirit feels unsettled and grieved by this fact as you've written here "BUT USING THE SAME BREATH WE BELITTLE , CURSE , GOSSIP AND SLANDER EACH OTHER WITH THE RISING AND THE SETTING OF EACH DAY'S SUN ..... AS THE OLD TESTAMENT STATES , " A deceitful tongue crushes the spirit . " PROVERBS 15:4"

The enemy is happy when we sin against each other and wants to crush our spirits and steal our souls. I pray that we all follow the example of Christ and allow the holy spirit to take control. Thank you!

Also, thanks so much for your encouragement and your kind words on my post!

  8. We were discussing this at length at Monday night prayer meeting last night. The tongue is so powerful, and we know how destructive it can be. On the other hand, as Christians we need to be bold with our tongue. Just like every other member of our body, keeping it captive to Christ we must speak of His goodness and give an account for the difference He has made in our lives. Wonderful scriptures. Thank you for sharing...

    Blessings, Debbie

  9. Hello Debbie , Thank you for your comment which speaks volumes about our lives as christians
....What we say and how we say it sets the stage for how the public will react however there are things that need to be talked about that create a stir and a division no matter how gentle we say them ....The one thing that always remains true is this , " For the SON of MAN came to seek and to save what was lost."
....When we are salvaged (justification )and come to know JESUS in a deep an abiding manner
our authentic self shows ....We are not perfect people but the LORD works HIS perfect plan out in our lives ....May the LORD JESUS protect us in our sanctification (boldly professing HIS message ) until we are with HIM again.

  10. For our information, the scripture above , "For the SON of MAN came to seek and save what was lost ." is found in the GOSPEL of LUKE chapter 19 verse 10

  11. Thank you for the wonderful reminder! How I need to remember to rely on God to help control my tongue every hour.

  12. A very wise comment !! Hope you are having a good night !
